The interior of the space was created by Stephanie Lesser Woodmansee of New York, New York. The layout of the store caters to the 'tasting tour' experience. Wide reclaimed wood planks behind the seating area were salvaged from a barn in the area, purchased at Architectural Salvage in Essex, VT along with an old bar that was once in a local pub. A custom light fixture adds to the warm rustic ambiance. The farmhouse table can double as a great spot for tastings and parties.
We are proud to be working with Burlington's own - Red Hen Bakery. Red Hen Bakery produces premium quality breads and pastries with traditional methods and carefully selected high quality ingredients. They do this while striving to minimize their impact on the environment and support the growers and producers of their ingredients. Saratoga Olive Oil Co. provides free samples of their artisan breads for tasting with our Extra Virgin Olive Oils and our Aged Balsamic Vinegars. You can learn more about Red Hen at redhenbaking.com.
We are proud to be working with a great local Vermont company - Grand Isle Pasta. Grand Isle works with local farmers in Grande Isle county. They add no preservatives, food coloring, eggs or salt in their pasta. Grand Isle pasta is made in small batches using a bronze plate to create a rough textured pasta with an "Old World Feel". Their traditional multi step drying process allows the pasta to keep it's nutritional value and full flavor. You can learn more at grandislepasta.com.
Rooftop Pottery of Burlington, VT custom designs all our olive oil cruets that are available in the store. The pottery is hand thrown on a potter's wheel. The owner, Harold Kaplan, describes his process of pouring, plunging, splashing and painting on his Bisque-ware like, "putting a puzzle of liquid light together on the pots." He continues, "My pottery, like a hot cup of tea, is one of those items in your house that you have a daily basis for yourself and for sharing with others." It is his hope that his cruets will "find a future dinner set at your table and provide other wonderful gifts for friends and familes as you celebrate life's special times." Our custom made olive and cheese boards are handcrafted by Grimard Designs which is located in the Green Mountains of Vermont. Saratoga Olive Oil boards are made from Maple, Cherry and Walnut woods. When the opportunity allows, Grimard Designs uses either local woods or reclaimed lumber. They always try to use local products, keeping their products local to Vermont or New England. After completion, the boards are burn branded with our beautiful logo and then hand coated with three coats of mineral oil and one coat of bees wax. Their wax is harvested from an organic bee farm in Connecticut.
