Fried Dough with Saratoga Olive Oil Co. Dark Chocolate Balsamic

A lot of customers taste our Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar and wonder, “What can I do with this?” This balsamic - or really any of the flavored balsamics - work wonderfully as toppings on desserts. Fried dough is a sweet treat that shouldn’t be reserved for visits to the fair. It’s a relatively quick treat to whip up at home - it only takes about 30 minutes - and uses just a few ingredients. Top it with a drizzle of Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar and confectioners' sugar for added sweetness. Additional balsamics that pair well with fried dough include Vermont Maple, Strawberry, Espresso, Blueberry, Raspberry and more. This recipe suggests shaping the dough into round discs which is the classic way to do it. Add some flare by using cookie cutters to shape the dough into fun shapes - great for birthday or holiday parties!

This recipe was adapted from King Arthur Flour.

2 cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cold unsalted butter, cubed
3/4 lukewarm water
2 tablespoons Saratoga Olive Oil Co. Dark Chocolate Balsamic Vinegar

1. Mix flour, baking soda, and salt.
2. Gradually mix in butter. Use a mixer, pastry blender, or hands.
3. Stir in water. Cover and let dough sit for 15 minutes.
4. Divide the dough into pieces of desired size. Roll pieces into flat rounds, about 3/8” thick.
5. Heat 3/8” vegetable oil in a pan. This is approximately 2 cups of oil if you’re using a 10” diameter pan.
6. Using tongs, add dough one piece at a time and cook for approximately two minutes, one minute on each side. The dough will become a light brown color when it’s ready to be flipped.
7. Drizzle with Saratoga Olive Oil Co. balsamic vinegar. We used Dark Chocolate in this recipe, but any flavor works.
