Not sure of what to do with your empty oil or vinegar bottles as you finish using your SOOC products?
Well, I've got great news for you!
Did you know:
You can bring your clean, dry bottles into any of our 3 store locations to receive a discount on a refill!
The first, most important step in this process? Enjoying your original Saratoga Olive Oil Co. purchase! Here on our website you can find many great resources available, to help you get the most from your products. On each specific (oil or vinegar) product page, in the product description, you'll find suggestions for other products to pair that item with. We also have a full list of recipes, sorted by product used, ready to spark creativity for any meal!
One of the most popular requests I receive is a recipe for a simple salad dressing (using our SOOC products). Seeing as flavor combinations are purely based on individual taste palates, here are two of my favorite "go-to" recipes that can be used as guidelines:
- Simple SOOC Oil and Vinegar Dressing: Mix 3 Tablespoons SOOC oil and 1 Tablespoon SOOC balsamic vinegar, add pinch of salt and pepper to taste (if desired). Yields enough to lightly dress a salad for 4.
- Easy Balsamic Vinaigrette: Mix 3 Tablespoons SOOC balsamic vinegar, 1 Tablespoon Dijon mustard, 1 minced garlic clove, 1/2 cup SOOC oil, salt and pepper to taste. Yields roughly 3/4 cup.
Keep in mind, when it comes to winning flavor combinations, you're only limited by your imagination! One of my favorite "off-the"wall" combinations is the SOOC Milanese Gremolata Olive Oil, the SOOC Grapefruit Balsamic Vinegar and the SOOC French Garden Sea Salt (in lieu of regular salt and pepper). Don't be afraid to get creative!
"So, how does the refill process work?"
Now that you've used your products, it's time to clean the bottles! Everyone has their own method to make sure the bottles are rid of any residue, but here are two of the most popular methods/suggestions we've come across over time:
- Wash bottles upside-down in a dishwasher and allow to drip dry
- Squeeze dish soap into bottle, run hot water through bottle until water runs clear, then leave upside-down to drip dry
Whichever method you use, be sure to not reuse the stopper! This will trap moisture inside the bottle and could even cause residue build-up. In fact, we will always provide a fresh stopper when we refill your bottles - so there's no need to keep your used stoppers!
When you bring your bottles back to the store, any of our available associates will be happy to assist you in the refill process; simply take your bottles to the main counter and let them know the oil or vinegar you would like refilled in each bottle you've returned. Our associates will then refill, seal the bottles and help you complete your order!
An added bonus to refilling your bottles? A discount is applied to every refilled product!
At all 3 locations, Friday through Wednesday there is a 10% off discount on refilled products and every Thursday the discount on refilled products is 20% off!
Now, let's say you purchased a 200ml of Basil Olive Oil and fell in love with it (and, really, we could've told you that would happen), so on your next visit you intend to purchase a 750ml size bottle. If you do not wish to reuse your 200ml bottle for Basil, as long as the bottle is clean and dry, you do NOT need to reuse your bottle for a refill on the same flavor! Don't want to reuse that 200ml bottle at all, but still want to get a product in a different size bottle? You can still bring in your 200ml bottle and receive the same discount when you upsize!
"But I don't want to reuse my bottles...so what do I do with them now?"
If you do not have any desire to reuse your bottles for a refill, or to "trade" them for an upgraded size, we highly recommend recycling them at home. Per state food laws we do not reuse any returned bottles for regularly sold products, and we are only able to reuse bottles for customers requesting refills with their own previously purchased (clean/dry) bottles. There is also no bottle deposit refund on our bottles (typically only glass bottles issued for use with beverages warrant a state bottle deposit where honored). In the spirit of "staying green," we've also compiled a few ideas for recycling the bottles through DIY crafts on our Pinterest board!
We're always happy to help with any questions and/or comments, so don't hesitate to contact us!
Happy cooking! -
Alyssa at Saratoga Olive Oil Co.
